Recipe by Lisa Marie Cimini

Creamy overnight oats made with kefir, yogurt, rolled oats, chia seeds, maple syrup, and cinnamon. This simple make-ahead breakfast is nourishing, customizable with seasonal toppings, and ready to enjoy straight from the refrigerator.

  • Total Time10m + Overnight
  • Yield2 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 240g plain kefir
  • 60g plain or Greek yogurt
  • 25g old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 25g protein rolled oats*
  • 1 to 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 to 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl or jar, combine the kefir, yogurt, rolled oats, protein oats, maple syrup, chia seeds, cinnamon, and sea salt.
  2. Stir thoroughly until everything is evenly incorporated.
  3. Fold in the cacao nibs.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
  5. Before serving, stir well.
  6. If the oats have become thicker than you’d like, stir in a splash of kefir or milk until they reach your preferred consistency.
  7. Top with your favorite seasonal fruit, toasted nuts, seeds, or an extra drizzle of maple syrup before serving.

Notes

  • Overnight oats continue to thicken as they rest. Adjust the consistency with additional kefir or milk before serving if needed.
  • Old-fashioned oats provide the best texture. Quick oats become much softer after chilling.
  • Protein oats make the breakfast more filling but aren’t essential. Stir thoroughly before refrigerating to evenly distribute the chia seeds.
  • The flavor improves after resting overnight as the cinnamon and maple syrup blend throughout the oats.
